This weekend I recieved the sad news that Shyam Karanat passed away.
Although we never met in person, he was a good friend. We mostly talked about Emacs Identica-mode, where he made several contributions. Actually, his patches to use url.el were key to releasing the 1.0 version so Identica-mode wouldn’t freeze Emacs anymore while waiting for a server response.
A very smart guy, who also contributed to free software in India a lot (a fact I didn’t know until now). More details on his contributions and his passing in this FSF friends email.
Its very sad news, and he will be missed by his friends and collegues.
